Forever Four: A New (and exciting!) Chapter

Last September, I was given the amazing news that both of my cousins became pregnant! It was so unbelievable that both sisters were expecting and I was going to be an honorary Aunt (but technically cousin) to two beautiful baby boys. We literally have no babies or even kids in our immediate family (even though we're all technically "Kidd"s) so we're all super excited to meet them! We all stayed with my cousin Ashley in Sarnia at her new apartment. The eight hour drive was all worth being together and spending time with them. When us four girls get together, it's wonderful chaos. We can chat for hours and we have the best times together. Seeing the baby's room and talking about babies all week has definitely got me so excited to meet my nephews.

It's always tricky figuring out what to wear to family events. Whenever I'm picking out what to wear to a birthday, wedding, or baby shower in this case, I always throw rules out the window and stay true to my style. I wore my new Indian-style tunic. I felt like the light colour was perfect for a baby shower and paired it with a matching clutch. My gold shoes were a must given the hints of gold in the dress and my scarf was more a fluke since I was so cold that day.

Keeping things groovy.

While it's horribly cold and goopy outside, I like to keep things groovy on the inside. This is one of my favourite and most frequented blazers that I wear to work. My t-shirt you may recognize from my latest thrift haul video; It's such a fun print but if you stare at it too long you may start to see stars! The purse was a score from H&M and I predict it to be a summer favourite. I paired it with classic black skinny jeans and my gold sequinned oxfords. This is the time of year for indulgence, relaxation, and keeping things groovy until the storm passes. And by storm, I mean six months of winter.

Winter Dressing Circus

Winter is always a difficult time to dress. In trying to keep warm, you have to layer up. You can't just wear a simple outfit. There has to be the base layer, and the base layer has to go with the rest of the layers. And on top of that, you have to wear a big bulky coat and sometimes a hat, scarf, and leather gloves. It really is a challenge trying to make this whole dressing circus work in my favour 7 days a week but this is the season where my many blazers come in handy. Everyday for work I generally wear either a skirt and sometimes pants, paired with either a blouse or t-shirt and topped with some type of blazer. I wear the same coat and almost the same boots everyday and some combination of hat and scarf.

The dressing ordeal is one of the reasons I hate winter. I just feel heavy and cold and hot and wet all at the same time and it's not pretty. While there's not much I can do to sway Canada into warmer weather, I can choose to dress wisely and try to smile through it. If you're not sure what to wear in below digits weather, I'd suggest investing in a few key items:

  • warm coat (mines consignment, check thrift stores!)
  • Doc Martens (the only boot ever)
  • hats (H&M has some cute ones)
  • scarves (thrift shops have the best)
  • leather gloves
  • insulated nylons (Mark's)
  • fleece-lined leggings or pants
